A very good copy in d.w.  of Cassar’s now uncommon and ground-breaking work on the medical history of Malta. This is a broad social and political history of the island, showing how disease in the form of cholera, plague and leprosy followed inevitably in the wake of each invasion.    £180.

 

 

H. St. J.B. Philby. Sheba’s Daughters. A Record of Travel in Southern Arabia. 1st. edition. London. 1939. Large hill2octavo. Original green cloth, mottled as usual, but otherwise a very good good copy in a more or less complete d.w. As the first recorded traveller to have crossed Arabia from north to south Philby’s  championing of Ibn Saud is both persuasive and  prophetic.    £250.
