Len DeightonMichael Kemp Bookseller at stand number 51 will have the following Len Deighton collection on offer, details as follows: all signed and/or inscribed to Liz and Derek Jewell including the very rare screenplay for Oh What a Lovely War. Folio. 1st and only edition. Large format, foolscap, wrappers. Wrappers a little creased and with two old staple marks.   Loosely inserted are two signed typed letters and one signed authograph letter from len deighton to Liz and Derek Jewell. Jewell [1927 – 1985] was a writer, broadcaster, critic and publishing director of Time Newspapers. deighton3Deighton was a friend and they socialised regularly. The autograph letter relates to an advert that Deighton was proposing to write for American Express. The script is, in my experience, the rarest item in Deighton’s canon. He asked for his name to be removed from the final screen credits for Richard Attenborough’s fiim, a decision he later described as childish.
