SUMMER FAIR HIGHLIGHT – John Atkinson Rare Books

John Atkinson will be exhibiting at the Summer Fair at Stand no 20. He will have the following books for sale:

Rankin, Ian: ‘Knots and Crosses’ First UK Edition

atkinson1The Bodley Head  1987. A first edition, first printing published by The Bodley Head in 1987. A near fine book (one small name to the top of the front pastedown). Light spotting to the tanned page edges. Some light off-setting to the end-papers. In a near fine unclipped wrapper which is a little faded to the spine and has some light off-setting to the end-flaps. A very nice copy of the author’s first novel. £850.00



Bond, Michael: ‘A Bear Called Paddington’ First UK Edition SIGNED. Collins  1958. A first edition, first printing atkinson2published by Collins in 1958. A fine book (rear board a little sprung) with no inscriptions. SIGNED by the author without dedication to the front free end-paper. In a very good+ publisher’s price clipped and repriced dust wrapper. One minor chip to the foot of the spine and to one corner. A very nice copy indeed and very rare signed.



atkinson4Orwell, George: ‘Animal Farm’ First UK Edition 1945
Secker and Warburg  1945

A first edition, first printing published by Secker and Warburg in 1945. A near fine book without inscriptions (one minute previous owner’s plate to the front pastedown). The usual rubbing to corners and edges is evident. Two small spots to the top of the front panel. The book white titles are still very white indeed and the spine itself is very clean and not faded or browned. In a very good+ unclipped first issue wrapper (with the Searchlight Books printing to the rear as called for). Minor loss to the spine tips. Titling still present and bright. Some light spotting to the rear panel. Some rubbing to the edges as is usual with this frail Wartime production. One of only 4500 copies.


Fleming, Ian: ‘Goldfinger’ First UK Edition 1959

A first edition, first printing published by Cape in 1959. A very good+ (or better) book without inscriptions with some spotting to the page edges. In a very good+ unclipped wrapper with no fading to the spine. One small internal repair to the head of the spine and a thin line to the top of the skull. A very presentable unclipped copy.
